When to use speedups

During building and research events to double-dip on rewards.

Before war phase to finish critical upgrades.

When you're about to go offline and the timer is short.

Long timers you can sleep through.

Upgrades that don't unlock anything urgent.

Hoarding for events is better than random spending.

But don't hoard forever — speedups have no value unspent.
